Our experienced and knowledgeable team is able to serve families of all faiths, beliefs, cultures and backgrounds. For more than 50 years, our commitment has remained unchanged and yet, our funeral home has always responded to the changing needs of the Gresham community. With an extensive remodel completed in 2008, our facility offers more space to accommodate the many types of service options we offer.

Cremation services

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.

More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

• a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
• a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
• a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

There are many options for cremation—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

• Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
• Exclusive custody of your loved one. We operate a private, on-site crematory and work with trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
• Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

In addition, we host community events annually in honor of our veterans and work closely with local veterans organizations. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran’s memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

The Dignity Memorial^® Lift Social Support Program

Losing a spouse can be the most stressful experience that many will face. Dignity Memorial LIFT (Living Information for Today^®) is a social support program that gives widowed individuals the opportunity to socialize with others who share similar feelings and experiences. By hosting organized monthly events, such as luncheons, educational seminars and day trips, members have the chance to invest emotional energy in potential new friends and experiences.

You are invited to join us for LIFT Bunco at Bateman Funeral Home on the last Tuesday of the month from 3pm-5pm, January through October. For more information on this and other upcoming activities in the Portland area, contact us. Members may incur expenses related to activities or meals, but membership is free and is not restricted to those who have been served by Dignity Memorial^® providers. LIFT is sponsored by the Dignity Memorial^® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

History

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home started in 1932 when Kenneth Bateman began his work in funeral service in Portland, Oregon. In 1950, he and his wife, Rita, moved to Gresham and began Bateman Funeral Chapel on Main Street. On February 20, 1958, the Gresham Outlook newspaper announced the opening of "The New Bateman Funeral Chapel." The newly constructed building was ready to serve the community.

The Morris years

In 1980, Kenneth sold the business to Stanley Morris. The Morris family purchased Carroll's Funeral Home in 1986, and 2 years later the 2 funeral homes merged into a single location on Powell Boulevard, becoming Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel. In the mid-90s, Stanley Morris sold his interest in the funeral home.

Updates and remodels to our funeral home

Throughout the years, there have been numerous updates and remodels to our funeral home—all to improve our ability to provide exceptional, professional, caring service. In 2007, Bateman Carroll Funeral Home joined the Dignity Memorial^® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Today, Bateman Carroll Funeral Home continues to provide the highest standards of service, leading the way in innovative methods to honor the memory of loved ones.
